The church displays a valuable rose-window on the front while inside the altairs take inspiration from rising Baroque style. The property is placed in the historical center of Minervino, which foundation traced back to Greeks-Iapigis. Probably the name originated from the temple of Minerva (Latin name for Athena), already extant in the neighbourhood. Nevertheless the area was formerly populated in the bronze age, as proved by the existence of some menhirs and dolmens. During the centuries the population in rout from the ravages caused in Salento from Gothes, Saracens, Guglielmo il Malo, Frederick and Manfred sought shelter in Minervino.
